Using Bloomberg or Yahoo for Dow Jones Index Futures

When you’re looking for Dow Jones Index Futures using places like Bloomberg of Yahoo can be a little confusing. They list the futures on their website but there is no clear definition of what futures contract they are referencing. From what I can tell they are referencing the current Dow Jones index and not the futures contracts that are traded on through the CME Group. Now we do that here as well but for any trader who knows how to trade futures the futures contracts do trade closely related to the actual index.

It seems that when you search for stock market futures the top results end up being Bloomberg which aren’t really the true futures contracts. It can be misleading. One of the best ways to see the futures contracts is to go the CME Group website  and that is where you can find the latest Dow Jones or any index Futures information.  You can even get the options values for each futures contract that offers them.

If you go to Yahoo it’s even harder to find any futures related information as their more of a financial news outlet just like CNBC but without the television portion. Don’t get me wrong both of these have a great deal of valuable information. Some of it hard to find others easy but if you are actually looking for index futures information there are two great spots to get the information. First, the CME group which is the direct source, so, if you’re a go to the source type of person (like me), then that site is the best for you. Secondly, would be here at stock market futures, even though we use the actual indices to do our analysis we do open let you know that these are not contract values. You’ll see on our twitter page for stock market futures which has the handle of @indiciesfutures we actually call out the futures contract we’re looking at and where we think an opportunity to profit will arise.

All in all, Bloomberg and Yahoo are great for looking at the Dow Jones Index but the index alone. If you’re looking for the actual mini dow or mini S&P or even the big boys go to the source or check here for our latest information on stock market futures.
